Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio SUV
Written by Marco Carvajal
The Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio is a luxury premium compact performance SUV with seating for five passengers. This is not your typical country star automobile, the Stelvio “Four Leaf Clover” is the Italian racing SUV for excellence with a 2.9L V6 super engine, producing 505 horsepower.
The Stelvio just like most Alfa Romeo cars is very sophisticated, stylish, luxurious, and very fast. Italians like to produce luxury products in small packages, and the Stelvio is not an exception to that. It is a compact SUV, not too big, but you can not imagine all the power that this SUV stores under its hood, how powerful and how fast it is.
The Stelvio is a real fashionista, it has a very original shape and design with style touches everywhere, inside and outside, something you will expect from its price, $88,820 MSRP.
Alfa Romeo offers only three car models in the US, the Stelvio model that I am test driving, available as a regular model or performance model, Stelvio Quadrifoglio. Then the Giulia and the Tonale.
Stelvio Quadrifoglio SUV the fastest SUV
The Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio has the fastest acceleration you can find on any Alfa Romeo car and in most compact SUVs, It goes from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 3.6 seconds, reaching a top speed of 176 MPH. It is too fast!
The Stelvio was unveiled in 2017 at the Geneva Motor Show, as the first step into the SUV and crossover market. Alfa Romeo decided to break from their traditional sports car lineup and offer a performance-oriented luxury compact SUV.
According to Alfa Romeo, the Italian spirit of racing cars, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio is one the fastest and most powerful sports cars that Alfa Romeo has ever made.
The name “Stelvio” comes from Latin, meaning “steep” or “rugged,” The Alfa Romeo SUV is powerful and ready for the adventure.
The Stelvio SUV is the perfect combination of style and performance with a more rugged, off-road capability.
The luxury compact SUV, Alfa Romeo Stelvio, has Italian engineering with racing heritage, the Stelvio is a premium performance SUV. Alfa Romeo enthusiasts can enjoy a performance compact SUV like the Stelvio, with the racing symbol “Four Leaf Clover”
The Stelvio Quadrifoglio includes an 8-speed Automatic 8HP75 Transmission standard that works with very good precision and synchronization with the 2.9L V6 Twin Turbo PDI Engine.
The 2.9L Twin-Turbo PDI (Port fuel Injection) and side-mounted gasoline direct injection V6 engine features Engine Stop/Start (ESS) technology and delivers a maximum 505 horsepower and a maximum 443 lb-ft of torque.
The eight-speed automatic transmission works with very good precision and excellent performance for top speeds.
Quadrifoglio, the “Four Leaf Clover” is a symbol of Alfa Romeo racing cars since 1923
The four-leaf clover, the good-luck badge, has been the symbol of racing Alfa Romeo cars and has appeared on select production models since the Sixties. The new Stelvio Quadrifoglio is the first Quadrifoglio SUV made by Alfa Romeo.
Alfa Rome is an amazing brand, but it hasn’t been able to penetrate the US market yet. Car aficionados know Alfa Romeo well and appreciate the high-quality style and fast engine of the brand. But the general car buyer population doesn’t know Alfa Romeo yet.
The brand is trying to compete in the premium compact SUV segment, with its unique combination of good design, performance, and technology.
The new Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio is an extremely fast SUV, reaching a top speed of 176 MPH with Its 2.9L Twin-Turbocharged V6 engine. However, the top speed record is held by its brother, the Italian sedan Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio with a 191-mph top speed. So the Stelvio takes you faster to top speeds, but overall the Giulia gets you to faster speeds.
The impressive muscular 505 horsepower 2.9 Liters V6 Bi-Turbo engine of the Stelvio makes it a very fast racing car, with a punchy 443 lb ft of torque. More power than most Mustangs and similar power to the American Corvette.
Driving the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio you can enjoy good driving dynamics due to a sweetly tuned chassis.
The 2023 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds reaching a top speed of 176 mph.
Stunning Design
I love the silhouette, shape, and look of Alfa Romeo cars, the design of an Alfa Romeo is so stunning that it looks as if Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci came back to the present to design it.
Fuel Efficiency
The Stelvio Quadrifoglio is not the most fuel-efficient car you can find in the market, with a fuel economy of 17 miles per gallon when driving in the city and about 23 miles per gallon on the highway. This high fuel consumption is normal for a large V6 engine like the one used by Stelvio.
17 MPG City and 23 MPG Highway

Alfa Romeo the Italian Luxury Car Brand
The story of Alfa Romeo cars started around 1910 in the capital of European and Italian fashion, Milan, Italy. Most Italian luxury brands of fashion, clothing, jewelry, and others pass through Milan, just like the premium Italian car manufacturer Alfa Romeo which also started in Milan.
Alfa Romeo was created as an Italian-French automobile company that Alfa Romeo’s founder, Ugo Stella, and Darracq started as a joint venture using different names. Later in 1920, the Italian automaker changed its name to Alfa Romeo.
Alfa Romeo has a long history in racing culture, having competed in many famous motorsport events such as the Formula One and the famous race, 24 Hours of Le Mans. Alfa Romeo produces very beautiful and fast cars like the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, Alfa Romeo Spider, and Alfa Romeo Stelvio which I am test-driving.
Alfa Romeo is one of the brands part of the Stellantis automotive group, previously Fiat Group and Chrysler, that owns brands like Citroen, Jeep, Fiat, Maserati, Abarth, and more.
Alfa Romeo car model names are very artistic and creative, in Italian language, which for many Americans are difficult to understand and to remember.
I think that Alfa Romeo would be much more successful in the US if it would use American names that Americans are most familiar with. For many American car buyers, Alfa Romeo cars are very beautiful but they still don’t get used to the different car model names and don’t understand well the core and potential this car gives us.
I assume that most buyers of Alfa Romeo models in the US are people who know Alfa Romeo from their country of origin, Italians and Europeans who live in the US, who would love to have a piece of Italy in America and that is the Alfa Romeo. The other portion of Alfa Romeo buyers are the car aficionados who have done deep research and understand all the wonders of these cars.
The Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio is not your typical country star, the Italian racing spirit with 505 HP on a 2.9L V6 super engine is a car fashionista.
